Folkspeak is a Canadian not-for-profit corporation dedicated to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage through the production of multidisciplinary works. By centering on oral histories, lore, music, objects, and other forms of cultural expression, Folkspeak strives to promote awareness and understanding across communities.
Working with film and audio industry professionals to document and preserve our cultural legacies, Folkspeak supports contemporary artists across disciplines to create new works that reflect the shared histories and stories of the communities with whom we collaborate.
Our flagship production, O douce Providence, is a collaboration between Folkspeak's founder and executive director, contemporary composer Alyssa Ryvers, and the Duplessis Orphans, highlighting the resilience and stories of this important community.
Folkspeak welcomes collaborative projects with individuals and organizations that share our commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage, with a special focus on marginalized groups like the Duplessis Orphans.
